The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Council has expressed strong disapproval of Governor Peter Mbah's administration, citing concerns over alleged multiple taxation and extortion practices affecting residents and businesses in Enugu State. The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization has called for immediate action to address these grievances and restore public trust.
In a statement released today, the Ohanaeze Council emphasized the detrimental impact of excessive taxation on the economic well-being of the state. "The current taxation policies are stifling businesses and burdening citizens, creating an environment of economic hardship," the statement read. The Council urged the governor to prioritize transparency and fairness in the state's revenue collection processes.
The allegations come amidst growing discontent among Enugu residents, who have voiced their frustrations at town hall meetings and public forums. Governor Mbah, who has previously pledged to grow the state's GDP and improve infrastructure, now faces mounting pressure to address these concerns and implement reforms.
The Ohanaeze Council has called for a comprehensive review of the state's taxation policies and practices, urging the administration to engage with stakeholders, including business leaders and community representatives, to find equitable solutions. "We believe that a collaborative approach is essential to fostering economic growth and ensuring the welfare of all citizens," the Council stated.
