The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully intercepted a Malaysian returnee attempting to smuggle methamphetamine concealed in music speakers at a checkpoint in Adamawa State. This operation underscores NDLEA's unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking and safeguarding communities across Nigeria.
The suspect, identified as Ndubuisi Udatu, a 41-year-old ex-convict, was apprehended on April 7, 2025, during a routine inspection at the Namtari checkpoint along Ngurore-Yola road. NDLEA operatives discovered two giant music speakers containing four large parcels of methamphetamine, weighing approximately 2.7 kilograms. A monetary exhibit of N22,300 was also recovered from the suspect.
Ndubuisi, who had previously served a jail term in Malaysia for drug trafficking offenses, admitted to returning to Nigeria to continue his illicit trade. The methamphetamine was intended for distribution in Yola, Mubi, and across the border into Cameroon.
Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, commended the efforts of the Adamawa State Command for their vigilance and professionalism. He emphasized the agency's dual approach of drug supply reduction and demand reduction through advocacy campaigns under the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative.
This interception is part of a broader series of successful operations conducted by NDLEA across the country, including the seizure of opioids, tramadol, and cannabis in other states. NDLEA remains resolute in its mission to dismantle drug cartels and protect the health and safety of Nigerians.
