Gabonese Football Star Aaron Boupendza Passes Away at 28

The Gabonese Football Federation (FEGAFOOT) and the global football community are deeply saddened to announce the untimely passing of Aaron Boupendza, a celebrated Gabonese striker and former top scorer of the Turkish SĂĽper Lig. Boupendza tragically passed away on April 16, 2025, at the age of 28, following a fall from the 11th floor of a building in China, where he was playing for Zhejiang FC.




Born in Moanda, Gabon, Boupendza began his professional career with French club Bordeaux in 2016. His journey through the world of football saw him shine in various leagues, including Turkey, where he claimed the title of top scorer in the 2020–2021 SĂĽper Lig season while playing for Hatayspor. His career also included stints in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Romania, and most recently, China.




Boupendza represented Gabon on the international stage, leaving a lasting impression at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon. Known for his remarkable talent and dedication, he scored eight goals in 34 appearances for the national team, earning the admiration of fans and teammates alike.




The Gabonese Football Federation expressed its profound grief in an official statement, saying, "Aaron Boupendza leaves us with the cherished memory of a remarkable striker who brought honor to Gabonese football." Gabonese President Brice Oligui Nguema also extended his condolences, describing Boupendza as "a talented center-forward who brought pride to our nation."




Authorities in China have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. The global football community mourns the loss of a gifted player whose contributions to the sport will not be forgotten.
