In a landmark ruling, the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has nullified the removal of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. Justice Yetunde Pinheiro, presiding over the case, declared the proceedings and resolutions of the Assembly on January 13, 2025, unconstitutional and void.

The court’s decision reinstates Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker, effectively annulling all actions and resolutions taken during the contested session. The judgment also awarded damages of ₦500,000 to Mr. Obasa, citing procedural irregularities in the Assembly’s actions.

Obasa had challenged his removal, arguing that the session during which he was ousted was unlawfully convened while the Assembly was on recess and he was out of the country. The court upheld his claims, emphasizing the importance of adhering to constitutional provisions and the Assembly’s standing orders.
