The All Progressives Congress (APC) Enugu State Chapter has expressed deep concern over the rising spate of killings, kidnappings, and general insecurity plaguing various parts of Enugu State. In a strongly worded statement released today, the party condemned what it described as a deliberate effort by the administration of Governor Peter Mbah to suppress media reports and public awareness of the ongoing crisis.

According to the APC, communities across Enugu, including parts of Uzo-Uwani, Nkanu East, and Isi-Uzo, have witnessed a disturbing escalation in violent attacks in recent weeks, leading to the loss of lives, abductions for ransom, and mass displacements. The party alleged that despite growing fear and outrage among residents, the state government has failed to respond effectively, opting instead to downplay the incidents.

“The silence of the Peter Mbah-led administration in the face of these atrocities is both deafening and dangerous,” said Hon. Ugochukwu Agbo, the APC State Publicity Secretary. “Rather than confronting the crisis head-on, the government appears more concerned with shielding its image than protecting the lives and property of Enugu citizens.”

The APC further alleged that local journalists and media outlets are under increasing pressure to avoid reporting on security breaches, raising fears of a deliberate attempt to cover up the severity of the situation.

“This information blackout is not only unacceptable—it is an affront to democracy and the rights of citizens to know the truth,” Agbo added. “We call on the Federal Government, security agencies, civil society organizations, and international observers to intervene and ensure transparency, accountability, and swift action to restore peace and safety in Enugu State.”
