The Iranian government has officially rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent claim that Iran is playing a behind-the-scenes role in influencing the ongoing Gaza ceasefire negotiations.
Speaking through its Foreign Ministry, Iran described Trump’s comments as “baseless and politically motivated,” asserting that the Islamic Republic is not interfering in the diplomatic efforts currently underway between Israel and Palestinian factions. The statement emphasized Iran’s long-standing support for the Palestinian people’s rights but denied any direct involvement in shaping the terms of the Gaza truce.
“These allegations are nothing more than a repetition of tired political narratives aimed at deflecting from the root causes of the crisis in Gaza,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani. “Iran supports regional stability and believes that any resolution must be based on justice, international law, and the end of occupation — not manipulation by external powers.”
Former President Trump had, in a televised interview earlier this week, suggested that Iran was exerting influence over Hamas and other resistance groups in an attempt to shape the outcome of the ceasefire process currently being brokered by international mediators, including Egypt and Qatar.
Iran, however, insists its position has been consistent: calling for an end to Israeli aggression, lifting the siege on Gaza, and allowing Palestinians to exercise their right to self-determination. Officials say these principles guide Iran’s stance and that the accusations by Trump reflect “a deep misunderstanding of the situation in the region.”
Kanaani added, “Mr. Trump’s remarks are not only misleading but dangerous, as they risk fueling more tension at a time when diplomatic channels should be encouraged, not undermined.”
In recent months, the humanitarian situation in Gaza has drawn increasing global concern, with international organizations and governments pushing for a sustainable ceasefire and access to aid. Iran says it remains committed to humanitarian support for the people of Gaza and advocates for a political solution grounded in fairness and dignity.
Iranian analysts also criticized what they called a “double standard” in the former U.S. president’s remarks, pointing to Washington’s long history of political and military involvement in Middle Eastern affairs.
