Senator Francis Nwaebonyi, representing Ebonyi South in the Nigerian Senate, has expressed no remorse for his recent remarks referring to former Education Minister, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, as an "insult to womanhood." In a statement issued earlier today, Senator Nwaebonyi reiterated his position, defending his comments as a necessary critique of what he perceives to be Ezekwesili's actions against the values of Nigerian women and their dignity.

"I stand by my words, and I do not regret calling Dr. Ezekwesili an insult to womanhood," Senator Nwaebonyi stated. "The remarks I made were driven by my commitment to upholding the integrity of Nigerian women and ensuring that those who purport to represent us do not degrade the principles that define our strength, resilience, and contributions to society."

Senator Nwaebonyi’s controversial comments were made during a live media interview, where he criticized Dr. Ezekwesili for her political actions, which he claims have failed to support the rights and empowerment of Nigerian women. The senator has faced significant backlash from various groups, including women's rights organizations and political allies of Dr. Ezekwesili. However, Nwaebonyi maintains that his remarks were necessary to draw attention to what he views as hypocrisy and misrepresentation within the political sphere.

"I am deeply committed to ensuring that women in Nigeria receive the respect and opportunities they deserve. However, this should not come at the expense of values that uphold the dignity of womanhood. When people who should be leading the charge for women’s rights go against these principles, it is essential to call them out," he added.

Nwaebonyi's remarks continue to spark debate among Nigerian politicians and citizens alike, with some calling for a more measured approach to political discourse, while others rally behind the senator for standing firm in his beliefs. Despite the controversy, Senator Nwaebonyi has affirmed that he will not back down from his stance.
