In the early hours of Tuesday, a tragic fire incident occurred at the GABSTAB Mega Petrol Station, Orita Challenge, Ibadan, resulting in the loss of two lives. The victims, identified as a petrol tanker driver and his motor boy, were consumed by the fire that broke out around 5:00 a.m.
According to Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, the fire service received information about the incident at 5:15 a.m. and immediately deployed personnel to the scene. Despite their swift response, the driver and motor boy were unable to escape the inferno and were burnt beyond recognition.
The fire has since been brought under control, preventing further damage to nearby commercial outlets and residential buildings. The Oyo State Fire Services Agency, with support from security agencies, worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and ensure the safety of the surrounding area.
Mr. Moroof Akinwande, Special Adviser on Fire Services Reform to Governor Seyi Makinde and Chairman of the State Fire Services Agency, confirmed that the situation is now under control. He expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of the fire.
