In a renewed call for heightened security measures, Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has urged security heads in the region to take decisive and swift actions to end the scourge of banditry that continues to affect the lives and livelihoods of residents.
Governor Aliyu made this appeal during a high-level security meeting held today with heads of various security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and other key security stakeholders in the state.
In his address, the Governor expressed his deep concern over the persistent attacks by bandits, which have led to loss of lives, displacement of communities, and destruction of property. He stressed that the government remains fully committed to supporting the security agencies in their operations, ensuring that they are adequately equipped and motivated to restore peace to the region.
“We can no longer afford to allow banditry to persist. It is high time we took the fight to the bandits and brought an end to their reign of terror. The safety of our people is non-negotiable, and I am calling on all security agencies to redouble their efforts to eliminate these criminal elements from our communities,” Governor Aliyu stated.
The Governor also emphasized the need for improved collaboration and intelligence-sharing among all security agencies to strengthen the response to security threats. He urged residents of Sokoto State to remain vigilant, cooperate with security forces, and report any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.
