The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called for an immediate and thorough investigation into the N26 billion oil sector scandal that has allegedly implicated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

In a letter to the President, SERAP urged him to use his office to initiate a probe into the matter, stressing the importance of transparency and accountability in the country’s oil industry. According to SERAP, the scandal, which involves the mismanagement of billions of naira in public funds, undermines efforts to address Nigeria’s economic challenges and denies the Nigerian people their right to equitable access to the country’s wealth.

“Given the scale and implications of this scandal, it is vital that President Tinubu take swift and decisive action to ensure that those responsible are held accountable, and that the Nigerian people are provided with a clear and comprehensive report of the investigation,” said SERAP’s Executive Director.

The N26 billion oil sector scandal has raised serious concerns about possible corruption, mismanagement, and financial malfeasance within Nigeria’s key sector. With significant portions of public funds reportedly misused, SERAP’s demand comes at a critical moment when Nigerians are calling for better governance and greater accountability from both government officials and corporate actors in the oil sector.

SERAP’s call echoes broader civil society demands for President Tinubu to strengthen the fight against corruption and reinforce the rule of law in Nigeria. The organization believes that an independent and transparent investigation into the scandal would demonstrate the government’s commitment to tackling corruption, safeguarding public resources, and improving governance in the country.

“Given the gravity of the situation, this is an opportunity for President Tinubu to set a precedent for transparency and integrity within the government.”for
