The Metropolitan Police Service has formally charged former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey, 32, with multiple serious offences following a comprehensive investigation.
Mr. Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, relating to incidents reported by three separate women. The alleged offences are said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022. The charges follow an investigation that began in February 2022, when the first report was received by police.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorised the charges after reviewing a detailed file of evidence submitted by detectives. Jaswant Narwal, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London North, stated:
“Our prosecutors have worked closely with officers in the Metropolitan Police to review the evidence and advise on the appropriate charges. We remind everyone that criminal proceedings are active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial.”
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, added: “Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward. We urge anyone impacted by this case, or anyone with relevant information, to contact our team.”
Mr. Partey, who recently became a free agent after his contract with Arsenal expired on 30 June 2025, is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 5 August 2025.
His legal team has issued a statement denying all allegations, asserting that Mr. Partey has fully cooperated with authorities and intends to vigorously defend himself in court.
The Metropolitan Police and CPS have urged the public and media to refrain from publishing or sharing any material that could compromise the fairness of the upcoming trial, in accordance with the Contempt of Court Act 1981.
