Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has issued a bold call to action, urging both serving and retired members of the Nigeria Police Force to join a nationwide protest scheduled for July 21, 2025, aimed at demanding improved welfare and fair compensation for officers.

Under the banner “Pay Police As They Deserve,” Sowore emphasized that no police officer in Nigeria should earn less than ₦300,000 to ₦500,000 monthly, citing the current salary structure as “inhumane and unjust.” The protest is expected to draw attention to the dire financial conditions faced by officers, many of whom earn as little as ₦43,923 per month.

“To all Nigeria Police Officers — serving and retired — you have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to break free from slavery,” Sowore declared. “Mark your calendars: #POLICEProtest — July 21st, 2025. This is your date with destiny. Stand up. Demand justice. Fight for your worth.”

The protest is part of a broader movement to address systemic issues within the Nigeria Police Force, including poor pensions, lack of healthcare, and inadequate housing. Sowore’s call comes amid growing public support for police reform and increased scrutiny of the government’s handling of law enforcement welfare.

In response, the Nigeria Police Force has reportedly launched a nationwide roll-call exercise to monitor officers who may support the protestDespite this, Sowore remains undeterred, stating that the movement is peaceful, constitutional, and necessary.
