The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) community is mourning the tragic death of one of its respected pastors, Reverend John Yakubu, who was killed during an armed attack at his residence in Gombe State. The incident took place late in the evening on February 9, 2025, when unknown assailants reportedly stormed the pastor’s home, fatally shooting him in front of his family.
Reverend Yakubu, who had been a devoted servant of ECWA for over 15 years, was well-known for his commitment to community service, preaching, and spreading the message of peace and love. His untimely death has left his congregation, his family, and the larger community in deep shock and mourning.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the attack, but as of now, the identity of the perpetrators remains unknown. Preliminary reports suggest that the assailants targeted the pastor’s residence without warning, though the motive for the attack is still under scrutiny.
“The loss of Reverend Yakubu is a heartbreaking tragedy for his family, his church, and for all those who knew him,” said ECWA President, Dr. Joshua Ibrahim. “He dedicated his life to serving God and helping others, and this senseless act of violence has left a void that will be hard to fill. We are praying for his family and are working closely with the authorities to ensure justice is served.”
This incident comes amidst growing concerns about the rising security challenges in Nigeria, with attacks on religious leaders and communities becoming increasingly frequent in certain regions. ECWA leadership has called for greater protection of religious figures and their congregations.
