In a sharp rebuke to the UK Prime Minister, Kemi Badenoch, MP for Saffron Walden, has condemned the recent decision to cut defence funding in the wake of increasing global security threats.

In a statement issued today, Badenoch expressed her concern over the government's apparent failure to prioritise national security at a time when global instability is on the rise. She stressed that the UK's defence capabilities should be reinforced, not reduced, as tensions continue to escalate across Europe, the Middle East, and other parts of the world.

"At a time when the global order is facing unprecedented challenges—from the growing influence of authoritarian regimes to the increasing threats from cyber warfare—the decision to cut funding for our defence forces is nothing short of reckless," said Badenoch. "The security of the British people and the strength of our international alliances should be paramount. Cutting our defence budget puts both in jeopardy."

Badenoch pointed to the deteriorating security situation in Eastern Europe, where NATO allies are facing mounting pressure from Russia, and the growing threat posed by hostile actors in cyberspace. With these dangers at the forefront, she warned that reducing the UK's defence spending would send a dangerous message to both adversaries and allies.

"Now more than ever, we need a government that invests in our military, strengthens our defences, and prepares for the challenges ahead. Instead, we are seeing short-term political calculations take precedence over long-term strategic needs," Badenoch added.
