The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has launched a significant operation to combat drug trafficking as the new year begins, resulting in the arrest of a notorious drug kingpin along with several associates, including a prominent Nollywood filmmaker.
The operation, which took place across various locations in Lagos State, was part of the NDLEA's ongoing efforts to dismantle drug syndicates operating within and beyond Nigeria's borders. The agency's spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, confirmed that the raids were conducted following months of intelligence gathering and surveillance.
Among those arrested is a 61-year-old Lagos socialite known for his connections in the entertainment industry. He has been implicated in orchestrating large-scale drug shipments. The NDLEA operatives seized substantial quantities of illicit substances during these operations, including cocaine and synthetic cannabis.
Babafemi stated, "The arrests are a testament to our commitment to eradicating drug trafficking in Nigeria. We are determined to ensure that those who engage in this illicit trade face the full weight of the law."
The NDLEA has emphasized that these raids are part of a broader strategy to combat drug abuse and trafficking, which poses significant threats to public health and safety. The agency continues to call for community support in reporting suspicious activities related to drug trafficking.
