The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested Khadija Ali for allegedly abandoning her one-day-old baby along a bush path in Mpape, Abuja. The incident, which has drawn significant public attention, occurred shortly after Ali's husband deserted her, leaving her in a state of financial distress.

According to police reports, the baby was discovered near Crush Rock, behind the uncompleted Red Bricks Market, by local residents who alerted authorities. Responding to the tip-off, police quickly located and apprehended Ali. During interrogation, she confessed to abandoning her newborn due to overwhelming financial hardship and lack of support following her husband's departure.

Khadija Ali stated, "I felt I had no other option. I was scared and alone." Her desperate actions have sparked discussions about the challenges faced by single mothers in Nigeria and the societal pressures that can lead to such tragic decisions.

The police have taken custody of the infant, who is reported to be in good health and receiving necessary care. Authorities are now working with social services to ensure the baby's well-being and to explore options for support for Ali.

In a statement, the FCT Police Command emphasized their commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society while also addressing the legal implications of such actions. "We urge individuals facing difficulties to seek help rather than resorting to actions that endanger lives," they said.
