The Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board (BSUPDB) has officially declared a ban on street hawking and other unauthorized trading activities within the Maiduguri metropolis. This decisive action aims to enhance urban orderliness, improve public safety, and ensure the well-being of residents.

Governor Babagana Zulum's administration has emphasized the need for a structured approach to commerce in the state, particularly in light of ongoing efforts to revitalize the economy and restore normalcy following years of conflict. The ban is part of a broader initiative to regulate street activities that have contributed to congestion and disorder in key areas of the city.

Effective immediately, all forms of street hawking, loitering, and illegal trading are prohibited. The government has warned that violators will face legal repercussions, including confiscation of goods. Authorities will conduct regular patrols to enforce this new regulation and ensure compliance.

The Borno State government recognizes the challenges faced by many residents in securing livelihoods; however, it asserts that maintaining public order is paramount. The administration is committed to exploring alternative avenues for economic empowerment that align with urban planning objectives.
