In light of recent tragic stampedes across Nigeria that have resulted in numerous fatalities, the Edo State Police Command is calling for immediate collaboration among government officials, community leaders, and organizations to ensure the safe distribution of palliatives and manage large public gatherings effectively.

The Commissioner of Police, Ozigi Umoru, emphasized the importance of organized distribution methods to prevent chaos and protect citizens. "Following alarming incidents leading to unnecessary loss of life during similar events, we urge all stakeholders to work closely with law enforcement to create a safer environment during charitable distributions," he stated.

The police command's appeal comes after a series of devastating stampedes nationwide, including a recent incident in Oyo State where 35 children lost their lives during a Christmas funfair. These occurrences highlight the urgent need for enhanced safety protocols at public events, particularly during the festive season when large crowds are expected.

In a statement released on Sunday, police spokesperson Moses Yamu reiterated that all organizations planning events involving substantial gatherings must engage with the police beforehand. This proactive approach aims to facilitate crowd control and ensure adequate security measures are in place.
