In a move to ensure a smooth and transparent process in the ongoing development of the Oyo Circular Road project, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has constituted a special committee to oversee the payment of compensation to landowners whose properties are affected by the project.
The Governor made this announcement during a recent meeting with key stakeholders, including members of the state’s Ministry of Works, the Land Use and Allocation Committee, as well as representatives from the affected communities.
The Oyo Circular Road is a major infrastructure project aimed at decongesting traffic in Ibadan, improving connectivity across the state, and driving economic growth by enhancing transportation links between major towns. However, the project requires the acquisition of land in several areas, and the state government is committed to ensuring that all landowners are fairly compensated for their properties.
Governor Makinde emphasized the importance of transparency, fairness, and adherence to due process in the compensation process. He assured landowners that the government would carry out an accurate valuation of the properties and make prompt payments as part of its commitment to alleviating any disruptions caused by the project.
The committee, which is expected to begin its work immediately, will be chaired by a senior government official with extensive experience in land acquisition and compensation matters. Other members will include representatives from the Ministry of Works, the Ministry of Finance, and other relevant agencies.
Governor Makinde also called on the affected landowners to cooperate with the committee and provide all necessary documentation to facilitate the compensation process. He reiterated that the government remains committed to completing the Oyo Circular Road project as a critical part of its efforts to improve infrastructure, enhance mobility, and create a better future for the people of Oyo State.
“The Oyo Circular Road project is a vital part of our administration’s efforts to modernize our state’s infrastructure and create lasting benefits for our people. We are determined to ensure that the process of land acquisition and compensation is handled with fairness and transparency, in line with our commitment to the welfare of all residents,” Governor Makinde stated.
