The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old woman, Fatima Abubakar, for allegedly torturing her two-year-old stepchildren. The arrest was made following a tip-off from concerned community members.

Fatima Abubakar, a resident of Sanda in Makama B Ward, Yola South Local Government Area, was taken into custody on Saturday, October 5, 2024. She is accused of physically assaulting a two-year-old girl and a young boy, both of whom are her husband’s children. The alleged abuse occurred after the children urinated and defecated in the room.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the arrest was made possible due to the vigilance and cooperation of the community. Neighbors reported that Fatima had a history of torturing the children and denying them food. Despite warnings from her neighbors to cease her abusive behavior, Fatima continued to mistreat the children.

Upon her arrest, Fatima confessed to the police that she had physically assaulted the children. The Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo, has ordered that Fatima be charged to court to answer for her actions.

The Adamawa State Police Command reiterates its commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of children and urges the public to report any cases of child abuse or neglect.
