The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced that independent marketers are now authorized to lift petrol directly from the Dangote Refinery. This development is expected to significantly alleviate the ongoing fuel scarcity in the country.

In a statement released today, NNPC emphasized that the Dangote Refinery, which recently launched its petrol into the Nigerian market, is free to sell its products to any marketer on a willing buyer, willing seller basis. This move marks a significant shift in the distribution dynamics of petroleum products in Nigeria.

The key highlights from the statement released by the NNPC revealed that NNPC is not the sole off-taker for Dangote and other local refineries. This means that independent marketers can now directly source petrol from the Dangote Refinery, promoting a more competitive and efficient market. Also, the statement also emphasized that the authorization for marketers to lift petrol directly from the refinery is expected to end the protracted fuel scarcity that has affected various parts of the country. NNPC assured Nigerians of the high quality of petroleum products from the Dangote Refinery, which will be readily available nationwide.

In a statement released by the NNPC Chief Corporate Communications Officer, stated, Olufemi Soneye said “The Dangote Refinery and others in Nigeria are free to sell to any marketer as it is a free market. We have no plans to become the sole distributor for any entity in a deregulated market.”

The Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Group, Anthony Chiejina said “We are committed to providing exceptionally high-quality petroleum products to Nigerians. The recent changes will ensure that our products are available across the country.”

NNPC’s decision to clear marketers for direct lifting from the Dangote Refinery is a strategic move aimed at enhancing the availability and distribution of petrol, ultimately benefiting consumers and the economy.
