In a bold move to revitalize and modernize the state’s agricultural sector, the Kano State Government has announced the recruitment of 1,038 new agricultural extension workers. This initiative is aimed at enhancing food production, improving farmers’ access to modern farming techniques, and ensuring sustainable agricultural development across the state.
Speaking at the official flag-off ceremony in Kano, the State Governor emphasized the administration’s commitment to empowering local farmers and transforming agriculture into a more productive and commercially viable enterprise.
“We are investing in the future of agriculture in Kano. By recruiting over a thousand extension workers, we are bringing expert knowledge, innovation, and hands-on support directly to our farmers’ doorsteps,” the Governor stated.
The newly employed extension officers are expected to provide critical guidance on improved farming methods, climate-smart agriculture, pest and disease control, soil fertility management, and post-harvest practices. Their deployment is part of a larger strategy to increase food security, combat rural poverty, and create employment opportunities for youths.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture further noted that the extension officers will be strategically deployed across all 44 Local Government Areas in Kano, ensuring wide and equitable coverage.
“This recruitment aligns with our agricultural transformation agenda. It will bridge the gap between research institutions and grassroots farmers, enabling effective knowledge transfer and boosting productivity,” he said.
