Former Ogun State Governor and current Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has raised alarm over what he describes as politically motivated demolition threats issued by the Ogun State Government targeting his private residence and hotel properties in Sagamu.

In an official statement released by his media aide, Steve Oliyide, Daniel condemned the issuance of simultaneous Notices of Contravention.

These notices were reportedly posted on August 8, 2025, by agents of the state’s Ministry of Urban and Regional Planning, citing alleged violations such as lack of planning permits and inadequate setbacks.

Daniel has described the move as a “thuggish tactic” and a “blatant abuse of power” by Governor Dapo Abiodun, accusing the administration of weaponizing the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022 to retroactively target properties built long before the law was enacted.

“This is not a legal process; it is a thuggish tactic designed to intimidate and inflict damage,” Daniel stated, adding that the properties in question were built between 2004 and 2015.

He further criticized the government’s failure to follow due process, noting that the notices were issued without the legally required intervals between contravention alerts, quit orders, and penalties.

Daniel also referenced the controversial midnight demolition of DATKEM Plaza in Ijebu Ode in 2023 — a property owned by his wife — which remains under litigation. He claims this latest action continues a pattern of political vendetta aimed at silencing opposition voices in Ogun State.
