President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged Nigeria’s senior women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, to soar high and bring the trophy home as they begin their campaign at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
In a statement issued through the Presidential Spokesperson, President Tinubu expressed unwavering confidence in the team's ability to make the nation proud once again, calling them “a symbol of resilience, excellence, and the fighting Nigerian spirit.”
“The Super Falcons have consistently shown that they are a force to be reckoned with in African football,” Tinubu said. “As they embark on this journey to add another star to our football legacy, I urge them to play with unity, courage, and the pride of over 200 million Nigerians behind them. Bring the trophy home!”
The Super Falcons, who are nine-time champions of the tournament, are among the favorites to clinch the title once again. Their campaign is being closely watched as a matter of national pride and a beacon of progress for women in sports.
President Tinubu also commended the coaching crew and support staff, pledging the federal government’s continued commitment to promoting sports development and ensuring athletes have the necessary infrastructure and motivation to succeed on global stages.
“We believe in you. Play for the flag, play for history, and most importantly, play for yourselves and every young girl who sees a future in football because of you,” Tinubu added.
