The United Kingdom has strongly condemned the brutal killing of 33 kidnap victims by suspected bandits in Zamfara State, northwest Nigeria.

In a statement released today by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), the UK expressed deep concern over the growing insecurity in the region and extended its condolences to the families of the victims.

“We are appalled by reports of the horrific murder of 33 kidnap victims in Zamfara. The UK stands in solidarity with the people of Nigeria during this painful time and continues to support efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, and all forms of violence targeting innocent civilians,” the statement read.

The UK called on Nigerian authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice and to intensify efforts to ensure the protection of vulnerable communities across the country.

“We urge the Government of Nigeria to take decisive action to protect civilians and hold those responsible for these crimes accountable under the rule of law. This cycle of violence must end.”

The UK reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to working with Nigeria to address insecurity through joint initiatives in intelligence sharing, capacity building, humanitarian aid, and regional stability programs.

Zamfara State has become one of the epicenters of violent attacks and mass abductions in recent years, with hundreds of lives lost and thousands displaced. The most recent attack, which claimed the lives of 33 captives, underscores the urgent need for coordinated national and international responses to the worsening crisis.
