In a strategic move to enhance road safety and reduce traffic-related incidents across the country, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening collaboration between both agencies.
The agreement was formalized at the NSIB headquarters in Abuja, with the leadership of both institutions affirming their shared commitment to improving the nation’s transportation safety architecture through coordinated efforts in accident investigation, data sharing, public education, and policy development.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, NSIB Director General, Engr. Akin Olateru, described the partnership as “a vital step in advancing a holistic safety culture in Nigeria’s land transport sector,” adding that the MoU would allow for joint investigations into major road crashes, identification of root causes, and implementation of preventive strategies.
On his part, FRSC Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu, emphasized the need for synergy between safety-focused agencies, stating, “Road safety is a collective responsibility. This MoU signifies a new chapter of inter-agency cooperation that will improve the accuracy of crash investigations and ultimately save lives on our roads.”
The MoU also aligns with the Federal Government’s broader agenda to improve road infrastructure and reduce road traffic fatalities in line with the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety.
