The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a stern warning of imminent nationwide mass action in response to the deepening economic hardship, rising insecurity, and what it describes as coordinated attacks on workers’ rights across the country.

Rising from its Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting held at the 12th June Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, the NLC declared that the current socio-economic conditions have become intolerable for Nigerian workers and the general populace. The union emphasized that the cost-of-living crisis, coupled with widespread insecurity, has pushed millions into extreme poverty and despair.

“Nigerian workers will no longer sit idly by while the nation’s economy and democracy crumble,” the NLC stated in its communique.

The Congress condemned the government’s perceived inaction and failure to address the worsening living conditions, warning that unless urgent and concrete steps are taken, it will mobilize its affiliates and civil society allies for a nationwide protest to demand accountability and relief for the suffering masses.

The NLC also highlighted the erosion of workers’ rights, citing recent dismissals, unpaid salaries, and unsafe working conditions as further evidence of systemic neglect.

The Congress called on all Nigerians to remain vigilant and united in the face of adversity, urging the government to act swiftly to prevent a total breakdown of order.
