The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a two-month extension of its visa overstay amnesty initiative, offering foreign nationals a renewed opportunity to regularize their immigration status without incurring penalties.

Originally set to end on July 31, the amnesty window will now remain open until September 30, 2025, according to a statement from the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). The initiative, which began on May 1, 2025, is part of broader efforts to enhance compliance with Nigeria’s new visa regime and promote a secure, transparent migration system.

Affected individuals are urged to regularize their stay through the official amnesty portal before the new deadline. The NIS has also set up a dedicated support team to assist applicants, reachable via email at amnesty@immigration.gov.ng.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, emphasized that the extension is a final grace period before full enforcement begins. “This initiative reflects our commitment to lawful migration and national security. We encourage all eligible individuals to take advantage of this opportunity,” he stated.
