Emergency crews are responding to a severe flash flooding event that struck a remote mountain village in northern New Mexico late Tuesday evening, leaving three residents missing and destroying at least one home.
According to local authorities, torrential rains overwhelmed the region’s creeks and drainage systems around 7:45 p.m., causing sudden and forceful floods that surged through the village. One family’s home was swept off its foundation and carried downstream. Search and rescue teams are working around the clock to locate three individuals believed to have been inside the house at the time.
“This is a deeply distressing situation,” said Santa Fe County Sheriff Elena Morales. “Our first priority is finding the missing residents and ensuring the safety of everyone else in the area.”
Local officials are urging residents to stay vigilant and avoid low-lying areas. Road closures are in place, and damage assessments are ongoing.
