The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wishes to express deep concern over the sudden and forceful occupation of its National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, by heavily armed police officers in the early hours of Monday, June 30, 2025.
The security operatives, deployed in large numbers, barricaded all access points to the Secretariat, including Dalaba Street, effectively preventing the scheduled meetings of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) from taking place.
Despite initial access granted to some staff members, they were later ordered to vacate the premises. Journalists and party stakeholders, including BoT members such as Maina Chiroma, were also denied entry.
This action, which appears to be a deliberate attempt to stifle internal democratic processes within the PDP, raises serious questions about political interference and the misuse of state security apparatus to disrupt legitimate party activities.
The NEC and BoT meetings were convened to address pressing internal matters and chart a path forward for the party. The obstruction of these meetings undermines the principles of democracy and the rule of law.
The PDP calls on the Inspector General of Police and relevant authorities to immediately explain the rationale behind this action and to withdraw the security personnel from the party’s premises without delay.
