The African Action Congress (AAC) has condemned the recently concluded Lagos Local Council elections as an unprecedented subversion of democratic principles, branding the process “worse than a coup.” In a fiery rebuke of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), AAC leaders demanded the immediate resignation of both Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and LASIEC Chairperson Justice Ayotunde Phillips.
Speaking at a press briefing today, AAC State Coordinator, described the election as a “blatant mockery of democracy, where transparency was abandoned and voters were silenced.”
AAC representatives highlighted numerous reports of polling stations failing to open, with ballots allegedly pre-marked before being counted. “This isn’t just malpractice—it’s daylight electoral robbery,” the AAC Coordinator emphasized. “What played out wasn’t an election, it was a well-scripted hijack of power.”
AAC announced plans to mobilize legal action while also organizing peaceful demonstrations to demand accountability. “The people of Lagos deserve elections—not coronations,” said [Spokesperson’s Name]. “We will not stand by while democracy is strangled.”
