Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would not have won the 2015 general elections if the current chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, had been in charge at the time.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News’ Prime Time, Amaechi praised former INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, for ensuring a transparent electoral process that led to APC’s registration and eventual victory in 2015. He emphasized that Jega’s leadership was instrumental in allowing APC to meet the necessary registration requirements, which ultimately paved the way for its success.

“The current chairman of INEC, if he was the chairman of INEC in 2015, we would not have won. May God bless Jega. The current chairman of INEC can only be compared to Iwu,” Amaechi remarked.

He further alleged that INEC under Yakubu’s administration has shown signs of bias, suggesting that the electoral commission would not have registered APC had Yakubu been in charge during the party’s formation.
