Governor Monday Okpebholo, alongside his deputy, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, led a massive victory march through the streets of Benin City on Friday, celebrating the recent ruling by the Court of Appeal that reaffirmed his election as the duly elected governor of Edo State.
The roadshow, which saw thousands of jubilant supporters, market women, youth groups, and party faithful, brought major roads in the Edo State capital to a standstill. The celebration followed Thursday’s unanimous judgment by the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, which upheld the decision of the Edo Governorship Election Tribunal, declaring Okpebholo the rightful winner of the September 21, 2024, governorship election.
Addressing the crowd, Governor Okpebholo expressed gratitude to the people of Edo State for their unwavering support and reaffirmed his commitment to delivering good governance. He described the repeated electoral and judicial victories over the opposition as a testament to the people's will and divine intervention.
“The PDP has given us reasons to celebrate in Edo State,” Okpebholo stated. “We defeated them at the polls, at the tribunal, and now at the Appeal Court. We will still defeat them at the Supreme Court. Their time is over in this state.”
The governor also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support of Edo State, attributing recent developmental strides to the president’s influence. He assured the crowd that Edo people would back Tinubu again in the 2027 elections.
