Omoyele Sowore, human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s two years in office as a “colossal failure,” accusing the administration of worsening insecurity, deepening poverty, and enabling corruption at the highest levels of government.

In a strongly worded statement released today to mark the second anniversary of President Tinubu's tenure, Sowore decried the current state of the nation, alleging that instead of eradicating terrorism, the Tinubu administration has allowed insurgency to spread from the Northeast to other regions, including Kogi State.

“President Tinubu has not only failed to curb Boko Haram; he has allowed the deadly insurgency to metastasize across the country, endangering lives and destabilizing regions that were previously peaceful,” Sowore said.

According to Sowore, the government’s economic policies have also been devastating for ordinary Nigerians. He criticized the removal of fuel subsidies and the devaluation of the naira, which he claims have pushed millions deeper into poverty while shielding corrupt elites from any sacrifice.

“What we have witnessed in the last two years is a calculated economic assault on the poor. Nigerians are being bankrupted to fund a lavish, unaccountable lifestyle for corrupt officials. The hardship is unprecedented, the suffering is unbearable,” Sowore stated.

Sowore, a vocal critic of successive Nigerian governments, called on citizens to hold the Tinubu administration accountable and to demand urgent reforms that prioritize the welfare and security of the people over the interests of a privileged few.

“This is not governance. This is elite criminality disguised as public service. Nigerians must rise and reject this mockery of democracy before the nation descends further into chaos,” he warned.
