Former Governor of Benue State and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Gabriel Suswam, has issued a grave warning regarding the future of the party, citing unresolved internal conflicts, a decline in leadership, and dwindling public confidence.

Speaking during a televised interview, Senator Suswam lamented the deepening divisions within the PDP, stressing that the party’s continued failure to resolve its internal crisis could result in its eventual collapse.

“The PDP may die if we don’t urgently take steps to fix the internal damage. There’s an erosion of public confidence, and many no longer see the party as a credible alternative,” Suswam stated.

The PDP, once Nigeria’s dominant political force, has been mired in infighting since the 2023 general elections. The party has struggled to recover from disputes between key power blocs, allegations of betrayal during the elections, and an ongoing leadership vacuum.

Senator Suswam emphasized the need for accountability and decisive action, criticizing the leadership’s failure to sanction members who acted against party interests during the last election cycle.

“We’ve allowed too much impunity. People sabotaged the party openly and walked away without consequences. Thdemocracyat silence has encouraged more division,” he said.
