Opening statements commenced today in the high-profile federal trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs, who faces a sweeping series of charges including racketeering, sex trafficking, and obstruction of justice. The trial, taking place in Manhattan federal court, has drawn national attention as prosecutors outline what they describe as a decades-long pattern of abuse and exploitation.
Federal prosecutors allege that Combs operated a criminal enterprise under the guise of his entertainment empire, coercing multiple women into sexual acts, often under the influence of drugs, while using violence, intimidation, and surveillance to maintain control. In their opening statement, the prosecution previewed testimony from several accusers, including former associates and employees, who claim they were manipulated or forced into participating in illegal activity.
Among the evidence presented is video footage from a 2016 incident showing Combs physically assaulting former partner Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, who is expected to testify during the trial. Prosecutors argue this video demonstrates a broader pattern of violent behavior consistent with the allegations.
The defense, led by attorney Teny Geragos, acknowledged Combs’ history of volatile behavior but insisted the acts were consensual and not criminal in nature. “This case is not about moral judgment,” Geragos told the jury. “It’s about criminal conduct—and Mr. Combs did not commit these crimes.” She also claimed the accusations are fueled by financial motives and personal vendettas.
