Nottingham Forest and the Nigerian football community are breathing a collective sigh of relief as striker Taiwo Awoniyi has successfully woken from an induced coma following emergency surgery earlier this week in the United Kingdom.

Awoniyi, 27, sustained a critical abdominal injury during Nottingham Forest’s Premier League fixture on May 11. Following the incident, he underwent immediate medical evaluation and was rushed into emergency surgery due to complications stemming from internal trauma.

Medical professionals placed Awoniyi in an induced coma to aid in his recovery and monitor his condition closely. On the morning of May 15, he regained consciousness and is reported to be stable and responsive. Doctors have expressed cautious optimism about his long-term recovery.

“We are incredibly relieved and grateful that Taiwo is awake and showing signs of recovery,” said a spokesperson for Nottingham Forest. “His resilience is remarkable, and the thoughts and prayers of the entire club and our supporters have been with him throughout this difficult time.”
