The Nigerian Army has commenced a formal investigation into a troubling incident involving its personnel, after a viral video emerged showing soldiers physically assaulting and dragging an undercover police officer in Ebonyi State.

The video, which has sparked widespread condemnation, depicts two men—one in military uniform and another in civilian clothing—engaging in the violent and degrading treatment of a man later identified as a law enforcement officer on covert assignment. The footage has been widely circulated across social media platforms, drawing criticism from human rights advocates and members of the public alike.

In an official statement, the Nigerian Army expressed deep concern over the actions captured in the video and condemned the unprofessional behavior of the personnel involved. The Army confirmed that the individuals identified in the video have been apprehended, and a full-scale inquiry is now underway to determine the facts and ensure accountability.

“The Nigerian Army is committed to upholding the rule of law, protecting citizens’ rights, and maintaining the highest standards of professionalism,” the statement read. “Any personnel found guilty of misconduct will face appropriate disciplinary measures in line with military regulations.”
