A devastating fire has engulfed the Qur’anic College founded by prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, located in the Rafin Albasa area of Bauchi State. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, May 18, caused extensive damage to classrooms, student hostels, and administrative buildings within the institution.

Authorities have confirmed that, by the grace of God, there were no casualties or injuries. However, valuable educational materials, religious manuscripts, and infrastructure were lost in the blaze.

The Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as a major setback for Islamic education in the region. In a statement issued by the Foundation, Chairman Sayyadi Ibrahim Sheikh Dahiru called for urgent support from the government, the Muslim ummah, and the general public to aid in the reconstruction of the institution.

“The Qur’anic College has been a beacon of Islamic learning for decades. This tragedy not only affects our immediate community but also the thousands of students across Nigeria and West Africa who benefit from its teachings,” he stated.

In the wake of the fire, the Dahiru Bauchi Old Boys Association has pledged N250 million towards the rebuilding efforts, including the restoration of student accommodations, staff quarters, and the digital archives of Sheikh Dahiru’s renowned Tafsir lectures spanning over 50 years.
