The Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has embarked on an official visit to the People’s Republic of China to strengthen partnerships and secure investments in a landmark water supply project aimed at improving access to clean water in FCT satellite towns.

The visit, which includes high-level meetings with Chinese government officials, development agencies, and infrastructure firms, underscores the Nigerian government’s commitment to addressing long-standing water infrastructure challenges in underserved communities surrounding Abuja.

Minister Wike highlighted the importance of international collaboration in his remarks: “Our mission is clear—to provide sustainable, potable water solutions to the people of FCT, particularly those in satellite towns who have been underserved for too long. We believe this partnership with China will bring about a transformative impact.”

The proposed water project is expected to be executed under a bilateral cooperation agreement, leveraging China’s expertise in large-scale infrastructure and water management technologies. The discussions are centered on funding mechanisms, technology transfer, and long-term maintenance plans to ensure the project's sustainability.

Accompanying the Minister are key officials from the FCT Water Board and the Satellite Towns Development Department, all engaged in detailed technical sessions with their Chinese counterparts.
