In a bold move to curb insecurity and promote peace, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has announced an amnesty program for cultists willing to renounce their affiliations and surrender illegal arms.

Speaking during a meeting with community leaders from Obagie, Oke-Oroma, and Amagba, the Governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to rehabilitating repentant cultists through skills acquisition and empowerment programs. A technical committee will be established to oversee the restitution process, ensuring that those who embrace the initiative are reintegrated into society.

“This is an opportunity for cult members to turn a new leaf and contribute positively to their communities,” Governor Okpebholo stated. “We are offering a window of restitution for those willing to renounce violence and surrender illegal arms in exchange for amnesty.”

The amnesty program is part of a broader security and urban development strategy, particularly around the proposed new city project in Edo State. The Governor assured residents that traditional sites would be protected during the development process and urged those affected by previous demolitions to present documentation to the newly constituted Land Resolution Committee.
