The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has officially reaffirmed Oba Olaitan Alabi as the legitimate leader of the group, following internal deliberations and growing public interest in the future of the organization's leadership.
In a resolution passed at a high-level meeting held in Akure on Tuesday, senior leaders and stakeholders of Afenifere unanimously endorsed Oba Olaitan’s continued leadership, citing his consistent commitment to Yoruba unity, democratic principles, and the founding values of the organization.
Speaking at the conclusion of the meeting, Afenifere spokesperson Chief Sola Adegoke stated: “Oba Olaitan has provided steady, visionary leadership at a time when our region and nation are in dire need of cohesion, wisdom, and principled advocacy. His guidance has ensured that Afenifere remains focused on its mission of championing true federalism and Yoruba self-determination within the Nigerian federation.”
In contrast, the group expressed its firm rejection of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, as a viable leader for the organization, citing what it described as “a series of divisive, self-interested actions incompatible with Afenifere’s ethos.”
“Chief Falae’s recent political moves and public statements have not reflected the inclusive, elder-statesman approach that Afenifere demands. His actions have deepened internal divisions rather than healed them. Leadership of Afenifere is not about political opportunism; it is about service, integrity, and alignment with the group’s long-standing objectives.”
The group emphasized that the decision was taken not out of personal animosity but as a necessary step to preserve the integrity and unity of Afenifere as a progressive voice in Nigerian politics.
