In a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, Nigerian authorities have apprehended four suspects—two British nationals and two Nigerians—for attempting to smuggle 92 bags of cannabis into the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The arrest was made following a coordinated operation led by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in collaboration with airport security and customs officials. The suspects were intercepted at the international cargo terminal after intelligence reports led officers to a suspicious consignment.

Upon inspection, officials uncovered 92 neatly packed bags containing compressed cannabis sativa, with an estimated weight of over 1,800 kilograms. Preliminary investigations reveal that the consignment was flown in from a location yet to be disclosed and was falsely declared as industrial materials.

Speaking on the arrest, NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) commended the vigilance and swift response of the airport command. "This operation highlights our unwavering commitment to combating the illicit drug trade and dismantling the networks behind it. No matter the nationality or the method, traffickers will be brought to justice," he said.
