Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has officially announced his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing an orchestrated coalition within the party aimed at opposing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. His exit has sparked widespread political speculation, with credible indications suggesting he may contest the 2027 Lagos State governorship election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued today, Jandor expressed his deep dissatisfaction with the direction the PDP has taken, particularly its involvement in what he described as a “coalition of convenience” targeting the Tinubu administration rather than presenting constructive alternatives.
“I joined the PDP to offer Lagosians a viable option built on service, development, and unity. However, it became clear that certain forces within the party were more focused on pursuing personal vendettas against President Tinubu than building a vision for the people. I cannot be part of such divisiveness,” Jandor said.
Jandor, who was the PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, has remained an influential figure in Lagos politics. His growing alignment with APC stakeholders in recent months has further fueled reports that he is positioning himself to enter the 2027 gubernatorial race under the ruling party’s banner.
Although he has not formally declared his intentions, political observers note that Jandor’s cross-party appeal, coupled with his grassroots support, makes him a formidable contender. Sources close to the APC leadership suggest talks are underway, and his official defection could be announced in the coming weeks.
