In a significant political development, Vice President Kashim Shettima today arrived in Asaba, the Delta State capital, to formally receive Governor Sheriff Oborevwori into the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The high-profile event, held at the Cenotaph Grounds in Asaba, marked a major realignment in the political landscape of Delta State and the South-South region. Governor Oborevwori, who until now was a key figure in the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), declared his defection to the ruling APC, citing a shared vision for development, unity, and national progress.
Speaking at the reception rally, Vice President Shettima hailed Governor Oborevwori’s decision as courageous and forward-looking, emphasizing the APC's commitment to inclusive governance and sustainable development across the nation.
“This is not just a political gain, but a partnership for progress,” Shettima said. “Governor Oborevwori has demonstrated a willingness to put the people first, and we welcome him into the APC family with open arms.”
Also present at the event were top APC chieftains, including National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and several governors and lawmakers. The occasion was marked by enthusiastic crowds and cultural displays celebrating the new political alignment.
Governor Oborevwori expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and promised to work closely with the APC leadership to deliver good governance to the people of Delta State.
