In a decisive move to address the growing concerns over food availability and rising prices, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially declared a National Emergency on Food Security, signaling a major shift in Nigeria’s agricultural and economic priorities.

Speaking during a nationally televised address from the Presidential Villa, President Tinubu emphasized the urgent need for coordinated action to combat food insecurity, which has affected millions of Nigerians in recent years due to a combination of climate change, insecurity in farming regions, inflation, and logistical challenges.

"No nation can survive or prosper when its people are hungry," President Tinubu stated. "We must treat food security as a matter of national security. Our administration is committed to ensuring that every Nigerian has access to affordable, nutritious food."

The President also announced the formation of a high-level Presidential Task Force on Food Security, to be chaired by the Vice President and composed of key ministers, state governors, and private sector leaders.
