In a significant diplomatic move, Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima has embarked on an official trip to Senegal, a day after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu flew to France for an important state visit.

The Vice President's trip is seen as part of Nigeria's ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with West African nations, focusing on fostering bilateral relations, trade partnerships, and regional security cooperation. Shettima is expected to meet with Senegalese officials, including President Macky Sall, to discuss areas of mutual interest, including economic collaboration, security, and climate change mitigation.

While President Tinubu’s visit to France is set to address key issues related to international trade, investment opportunities, and diplomatic relations with European partners, Shettima's visit to Senegal highlights Nigeria's commitment to enhancing ties within the African continent.

Sources close to the Vice President indicate that the discussions in Senegal will also touch on regional security challenges, particularly the fight against terrorism and insurgency, which continue to affect several nations in West Africa. Furthermore, the strengthening of economic and trade relations between the two nations is expected to be high on the agenda.
