Major League Soccer (MLS) has announced a new directive restricting Yassine Cheuko, Lionel Messi's personal bodyguard, from performing his protective duties on the touchline during Inter Miami matches. This decision comes as part of MLS's efforts to standardize security measures across the league and ensure the integrity of matchday operations.

Yassine Cheuko, a former Navy SEAL, has been a prominent figure on the sidelines since Messi's arrival at Inter Miami in 2023. Known for his vigilance and swift action in preventing pitch invasions, Cheuko has played a key role in safeguarding the global football icon during games. However, MLS has now limited his role to off-field security, including locker room and mixed-zone protection.

In a statement, Cheuko expressed his concerns about the growing number of pitch invasions in the United States compared to his previous experience in European football. "I was in Europe for seven years, working for Ligue 1 and the Champions League, and only six people invaded the pitch. Since arriving in the U.S., 16 incidents have occurred in just 20 months. There's a huge problem here. I'm not the problem. Let me help Messi," he said.

Despite the restrictions, Cheuko remains committed to his role as Messi's personal bodyguard and continues to work closely with MLS to address security challenges. "I love MLS and CONCACAF, and I believe we can work together to improve security standards," he added.

MLS has assured fans that it is taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety of players, including Lionel Messi, while maintaining the spirit and integrity of the game. The league is exploring enhanced security protocols to address the unique challenges posed by Messi's immense global popularity.
