Lagos Explosion: Remnant of Exploded Grenade, Two Live Grenades Evacuated

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the safe evacuation of two live grenades and the remnants of an exploded grenade following a tragic incident in the Mushin area of Lagos. The explosion, which occurred on Thursday, claimed the life of a scrap metal dealer and left three others injured.



The incident took place at No. 40, Taiwo Street, Idi-Araba, when the victim unknowingly attempted to dismantle a military-grade grenade. The resulting explosion caused panic among residents and led to immediate intervention by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit of the Lagos State Police Command.



Upon arrival, the EOD-CBRN experts cordoned off the area, ensuring the safety of residents and rendering the scene secure. The two live grenades were professionally evacuated to the Base Headquarters of the Police EOD-CBRN Unit for further examination and safe disposal.



The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He assured residents that the area has been declared safe and urged the public to remain calm and vigilant.



In collaboration with the Counter Improvised Explosive Device (CIED) Squadron of the 81 Division, Nigerian Army, the police are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the origin of the explosive devices and prevent future occurrences.
