The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a formal clarification regarding the ongoing discussions surrounding ward delineation in the Warri Constituency of Delta State. The Commission emphasized that no final decisions have been made and that the process remains in the consultative phase.
This clarification comes in response to growing public concern and speculation about potential changes to the existing ward structures within Warri South, Warri North, and Warri South-West Local Government Areas.
According to a statement released by the Commission's National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr. Festus Okoye, INEC reiterated its commitment to due process, wide consultation, and adherence to constitutional guidelines in any delineation exercise.
"We wish to state clearly that the Commission has not concluded any ward delineation in Warri or any other part of the country. The process is methodical, data-driven, and requires extensive stakeholder engagement before any formal outcome is reached," Okoye stated.
He further explained that any future changes would be guided by the provisions of Section 112 to 114 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the Electoral Act, ensuring fairness, transparency, and public input.
INEC also called on political actors, community leaders, and the general public to avoid spreading misinformation and to await official communication from the Commission.
